“This year, our Hajj pilgrims are preparing to go on pilgrimage to Bayt Allah al-Haram (Grand Mosque in Mecca) and Prophet’s Mosque and Baqi (cemetery),” he wrote in a tweet on Sunday.

“With the continuous efforts of our country’s Hajj and Pilgrimage (Organization) and cooperation from other institutions, (fulfilling) this divine duty will be realized for the people,” he added.

Amir Abdollahian went on to say, “We emphasize the holding of a safe, calm and unifying Hajj with dignity and the success of related bodies in Saudi Arabia (in organizing the event).”

The first group of Iranian pilgrims departed Imam Khomeini International Airport for Medina on Sunday morning.

Four other Hajj flights will also leave Iran for Saudi Arabia today.

A total of 39,635 Iranian pilgrims are set to take part in this year’s Hajj, departing from 17 airports across the country.

Saudi Arabia has announced that it will receive foreign pilgrims for Hajj this year after two years of suspension due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Figures show some 5.8 million Iranians are on a waiting list for travelling to Saudi Arabia to perform Umrah.

They have been waiting for years for their turn.
